  • S6197 - Generally secretive, congregates (tens) occasionally, but counts or breeding data unlikely to provide a direct basis for a population estimate. Overall: large range of occurrence in Oceania and SE Asia suggests that minimum population size likely to be 25,000 or higher, but not systematically assessed. In Australia, some coastal wetlands lost to drainage (long ago) or impacted by salinisation and groundwater extraction (recent decades).
