  • S2884 - 344 gives estimate of 100,000 - 1,000,000, for Australia and suggests numbers near the top end of range. 289: Large numbers [23,000] estimated southern New Guinea but not known if were migrants from Australia.
  • S7483 - Estimated population size in Australia was derived from estimate of the 2008 National Survey of Waterbirds, and fell into the same range (100,000- 1,000,000) as older data on highest counts.
  • T5193 - Trend unclear: possibly fluctuating with rainfall.
